Aakash Chhabra studied film at the Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) and Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute.
His shorts have screened at film festivals in Winterthur, Poitiers, Tehran, Kerala and Dharamshala. His debut short MINTGUMRI (2021) was nominated for the Film Critics' Guild of India Critics' Choice Awards 2022 while his short documentary A WINTER’S ELEGY (2022) featured on Sight and Sound - Best Video Essays of 2022.
He is presently working on his feature-length debut I’LL SMILE IN SEPTEMBER which is a part of the Torino Film Lab's Feature Film Program (Red Sea) 2024. It was developed at the Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) 2022 and Produire au Sud Nantes 2022. It has also participated in the HIFF Project Market 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City, Asian Project Market 2023 in Busan and NFDC Film Bazaar 2023 in Goa.
He is a recipient of the reFrame Genderalities film fellowship 2021-22 and the Rough Edges Uncode Fellowship 2022-23.
Named after Yasujiro Ozu’s custom-made, tatami-level tripod, Kani Releasing is dedicated to leveling the gaze and furthering the understanding of Asian cinema in North America. Kani aims to expand the canon, bolster up-and-coming filmmakers and reintroduce repertory classics in context.
Daluyong Studios aims to produce films that provide a voice to marginalized and underrepresented communities. Working with new and young filmmakers, it has tackled various advocacies such as violence against women, LGBTQ rights, mental health and social justice. These productions have won local and international awards after premiering in festivals in Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Busan, Torino, among others. Over the past few years, the company has started developing international co-productions that have participated at Cinemart, Cannes Cinefondation Atelier, IDFA Forum, Tribeca Film Institute Network, Berlinale Talents Project Market, Locarno Open Doors, and La Fabrique Cinéma du Monde.
Ananth Subramaniam is a Malaysian filmmaker born of Tamil descent. Ananth’s work often explores the subject of his ancestral identity and family within the context of a multi-layered genre. He was selected to participate in the 2020 Locarno Open Doors program and Southeast Asian Film Lab. His recent filmmaking credits include " The House of Brick and Stone '' which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival & BIFAN and “Liar Land” which won a Special Mention Prize at the Locarno Film Festival. He is currently working on his debut feature film “ The Passport” with the support from Berlinale's Talents Tokyo, Cine Qua Non Lab, SGIFF's Asian Producers Network, and Full Circle Lab. The project received Bucheon Award at BIFAN NAFF Project Market, Grand Prize Award at BAFF SEAPITCH, and has just recently been invited to Asia TV & Forum Market and Focus Asia Industry Market at Far East Film Festival Udine, Italy. Ananth also Idio Sync Inc, an initiative/production house created to develop Tamil culture infused stories.
Anderson Le diligently works in the global promotion of independent and world cinema as Artistic Director of the Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF). In addition to his duties at HIFF, Le is a programmer for the Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy and the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival in Vietnam. Le has consulted for several film festivals including the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival and Reel Asian in Toronto and has taught at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea. Le previously worked as the international programmer for Comcast Cable Systems, working in providing monthly content for Xfinity on Demand with a focus on Asian and Asian American content. In 2012, Le co-founded You Offend Me You Offend My Family, the digital content offshoot of Perfect Storm Entertainment, FAST & FURIOUS director Justin Lin's production company. In 2019, he co-founded EAST, a transpacific production company producing global content. Their latest project MAIKA (2022) was an official selection of Sundance 2022. Le is currently producing MAKAWALU, an all Kānaka Maoli-led feature film, scheduled for a Spring 2025 production start; RED THREAD, a new Vietnamese-based horror film in early 2025 (a co-production with Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan); a folk horror feature called THE OTHERED, an upcoming Amazon Prime Video genre series set in the Philippines, and ASH VALLEY, a cosmic sci-fi feature set in Kyrgyzstan, which the VR spinoff world premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and the short, ASH VALLEY: JANYL, had its world premiere at Busan Film Festival.
Established in 2013, Mocha Chai Laboratories (MCL) is an independent post production/content studio based in Singapore. Housing the first certified Dolby-Atmos audio facility in the region, MCL also has a Dolby Vision suite and is one of the only vendors approved on Apple iTunes Movie Store as both an encoding house and aggregator. SOUTHERN LANTERN STUDIOS, founded by Filipino filmmaker Sheron Dayoc, is a creative think tank and production company for multimedia short and long films. The company's debut feature, "Halaw" (2010), premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, winning the NETPAC Special Jury Prize, and received multiple awards at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and other international events.
Born and raised in Japan, Atsuko Hirayanagi is an award-winning screenwriter and director based in San Francisco. Her debut feature, OH LUCY!, expanded from her student short of the same name. The short film won the Wasserman Award for Best Graduate Film and garnered over 35 awards worldwide, including accolades at the Cannes, Sundance, Chicago, and Toronto International Film Festivals.
The feature-length OH LUCY!, a comedic drama set in both Japan and the US, received the 2016 Sundance/NHK Award for its script. The film was executive produced by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. It received nominations for Best First Feature and Best Actress at the 2018 Independent Spirit Awards.
In addition to her film work, Hirayanagi is the showrunner of the Amazon Prime 2022 series MODERN LOVE TOKYO. She is represented by United Talent Agency (UTA), a global talent agency based in Beverly Hills, California.
